About this event

Literacy Discovery Sessions are for Frederick County residents with public, private, or homeschool students in grades K-12. Through brief, informal activities, students explore foundational reading and writing skills while their parent or guardian observes.

Foundational reading and writing skills practiced during the discovery sessions may include letter naming, letter sounds, alphabet writing, handwriting, spelling, pencil grip, and writing hold

Literacy Discovery Sessions are informal screenings and not diagnostic evaluations. They can provide families with useful information about their child’s foundational literacy skills and possible areas for future attention, helping guide conversations with teachers, tutors, schools, or other education professionals.

Parents/guardians must attend, observe, and remain with their child for the entire event.
