About this event
Instead of practicing yoga on a mat, we will use a hammock suspended from a beam to perform yoga poses. In this gentle aerial class, we will stretch, align, balance, and invert while supported or suspended in our hammocks. We'll decompress our spines and joints, massage the facia, and improve balance, flexibility, and strength. In addition, aerial yoga reduces the load on wrists and knees which, for some individuals, limits mobility in a floor-based practice. No previous yoga or aerial experience is required; participants must be at least 13 years old. Please wear at least knee length yoga pants or leggings (silks wrapped around bare thighs can be a bit painful) and a close-fitting T-shirt with sleeves to protect the delicate skin around your arms; avoid lotions, oils, and perfumes (the hammocks absorb all odors); and remove any jewelry that could possibly snag the hammocks. If you're a smoker, please shower before you come to class. Some poses will require a mat, so please bring your yoga mat if you have one. So that the instructor can adjust the height of the hammock for you, please arrive at least 10 minutes before the class begins. If you arrive after class has started, the instructor may not have time to adjust the height of your hammock. This is a popular class; it sells out quickly and there is often a waitlist. If you arrive after the class has begun, you may discover that "your" hammock has been given to someone on the waitlist. All aerial classes must be prepaid. Class size is limited to 10, so reserve your spot early. In accordance with Yogamour’s cancelation policy, if you’re unable to come but don’t cancel within 2 hours of the start of the class, you will be charged the $15 drop-in rate. NOTE: Individuals with the following conditions should avoid aerial yoga: 1. pregnancy 2. unregulated high blood pressure, glaucoma, or any other condition that be exacerbated by hanging upside down 3. recent surgery or injury 4. vertigo, motion sickness, or inner ear disorders 5. fear of heights 6. severe joint issues
