- ➤ Big Greek Cafe in Urbana reopened after repairs following a January car crash that damaged its storefront — two people had non-life-threatening injuries and the owners will host a Grand Reopening and Greek Independence Day Celebration on March 25. Daily Voice
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Maryland Natural Resources Police are investigating several car break-ins at state parks in western Maryland, including a break-in at Greenbrier State Park on March 15 that is linked to similar thefts at Gambrill State Park (tips should be reported to 410-260-8888 with reference NRP-25-00253). - ➤ The African American Resources Cultural and Heritage Society began construction on its long-awaited Heritage Center—one of its founders, longtime resident Rose Chaney, helped lead the project. Frederick News-Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Frederick Police Department released its 2024 Annual Report showing that it answered 83,274 calls for service and that its Crisis Response Team handled 246 calls—while also expanding officer wellness initiatives and planning a move to a new headquarters in 2025. The report details efforts to strengthen community trust and improve public safety. City of Frederick
- ➤ The 2025 Maryland General Assembly is nearing its end and lawmakers still have not passed a budget bill to address a nearly $3 billion deficit; they must act by March 31. Frederick County State Senator Karen Lewis Young said that painful cuts to key programs and revenue increases will be needed — though some legislators oppose raising taxes — and noted that the Governor’s budget still keeps the Route 15 widening project and downtown hotel and conference center.
