- ➤ Gas prices soared nearly $1 nationwide over the last month, pushing Maryland’s average to $3.82 per gallon on March 19 amid global oil market disruptions. AAA said seasonal demand and supply issues may drive diesel and gas prices higher in the coming weeks. Daily Voice

- ➤ Earlier this week, an EF-0 tornado touched down near New Windsor in Carroll County and caused damage to a rural outbuilding and farming equipment (it reached winds of about 80 mph and measured 150 yards wide) before moving 1.6 miles; no injuries were reported. WFMD

- ➤ Maryland lawmakers are asking federal health officials for an update on when the inactive National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Integrated Research Facility at Fort Detrick will resume research. They are also concerned that recent agency restructuring could shift priorities away from pandemic preparedness — questions raised after a safety stand-down halted operations. WFMD
