EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hood College announced on Monday that it appointed its first dean for the Ruth Whitaker Holmes School of Behavioral and Health Sciences.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a hearing Tuesday night at Winchester Hall, the Frederick County Council heard from about 80 residents on a bill that would set rules for data centers and their impacts in our community. Council President Brad Young said the council may vote on the bill early May—possibly May 6.  WFMD
  • Frederick County Government will host a Deaf History Month celebration on Tuesday, April 1 at 10:30 a.m. at C. Burr Artz Library—where local partners will honor the deaf and hard of hearing community with a proclamation from County Executive Jessica Fitzwater and a panel discussion from residents sharing their experiences.  Frederick County
  • Frederick County’s Office of Agriculture unveiled its strategic plan today to help the county’s farms and farmers thrive, detailing 28 recommendations in areas such as regulation—workforce development—infrastructure—value chain improvement—and marketing. The plan aims to preserve farmland and boost education and resources to support the region’s long-standing agricultural heritage.  Frederick County
  • The city of Frederick lifted deed restrictions on several West 7th Street homes that were required to be sold as affordable housing—opening the market to a broader range of buyers.  Frederick News-Post
  • SHA is set to begin road improvement projects in Frederick, Carroll, and Howard counties soon. In Frederick County, crews will start work on Md Rt 550 between Md Rt 77 and Kelbaugh Road on March 31 with completion expected by early May, while projects in Carroll and Howard counties kick off on March 24, mid-April, and early April with finishes planned in May or June, weather permitting.  WFMD
