CULTURE NEWS

  • After a 39-foot granite Hindu statue began its slow journey from Baltimore last night, it will leave a staging area near Finksburg at 8 p.m. today to head for Ijamsville, and drivers along the route should expect delays.  Daily Voice

HEALTH NEWS

  • The CDC reports that a new COVID variant (Cicada) has been detected in wastewater samples from Maryland and nearby states and is causing mostly mild, cold-like symptoms. Frederick residents are advised to stay current with their vaccines to reduce the risk of severe illness.  Daily Voice
  • Frederick County Fire and Rescue Lt. Justin Laidler, a dedicated firefighter, was recently diagnosed with ALS, prompting community support. A fundraiser through The Yard Foundation has raised over $34,000 to help cover his rising medical costs (supporting his wife and three children).  Daily Voice
