- ➤ On April 1, a WalletHub study showed that Maryland had one of the nation’s steepest tax burdens, with an overall rate of 10.04 percent and a high income tax rate of 4.47 percent. The study compared all 50 states and found that New York and New Jersey had even higher rates while Pennsylvania and Virginia were lower. Daily Voice
