CRIME NEWS

  • Jury selection finished on Monday in Gregory Lyte's trial as he faces charges of attempted 2nd-degree murder, use of a firearm in a violent felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for a February 24th shooting outside Taco Daddy in downtown Frederick — the trial will resume today at 9:00 a.m.  WFMD

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Frederick County now lists many jobs including teacher roles at local government youth education facilities and openings for paving operators, canvassers, document specialists, bookkeepers, software developers, sales executives, product managers, and project managers. A job fair for public school support positions will be held on April 25 at Frederick Community College Conference Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—applicants can explore a wide range of opportunities.  WFMD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Frederick Community College's Hospitality, Culinary & Tourism Institute has partnered with King Arthur Baking Company—an industry leader—to launch the 'Tastes Like Home' recipe contest and pop-up bakery sale.   • Sabillasville Environmental School is seeking to add a portable classroom to its charter property to create more room for classes.  Frederick News-Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Frederick Health Hospital faced a ransomware attack in January that exposed sensitive patient information including Social Security numbers and medical records—prompting a class-action lawsuit alleging the hospital failed to secure private data and delayed notifying patients. The hospital must respond by May 9 and has offered credit monitoring while the suit seeks over $100,000 in damages.  WFMD
  • Nonprofit Infinite Legacy said nearly 4,000 people are waiting for organ, eye, or tissue transplants, showing the urgent need for donors in our area. The group will host a flag-raising ceremony — honoring donors and recipients — at Frederick Health Hospital on Thursday, April 10th at 11:00 a.m.  WFMD
