- ➤ Potbelly Sandwich Shop, a restaurant known for its toasted sandwiches, will open a new location in Frederick—bringing its popular menu to local fans. The chain will serve its signature warm sandwiches to customers soon. Frederick News-Post
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Gregory Lyte, 39, was found not guilty on all charges including attempted 2nd-degree murder — use of a firearm in a crime of violence — and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction after his trial began Monday following a 2019 incident outside Taco Daddy in downtown Frederick. WFMD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Emmitsburg is considering modifying its ordinance to allow more flexible year-to-year water rates. If approved, the change will let the town adjust rates based on annual cost variations. Frederick News-Post
- ➤ In a split vote on Wednesday, the Frederick County Planning Commission recommended that the County Council not approve the digital infrastructure ordinance proposed by Council Member Renee Knapp. Frederick News-Post
- ➤ Burkittsville proposed a draft fiscal budget of about $93,000 for the upcoming fiscal year—town officials and residents will meet in May to discuss the spending plan further. Frederick News-Post
- ➤ Frederick County Council held a hearing on Tuesday about raising salaries when only one person, Brent Simmons, testified against a planned raise of $25,000 for the County Executive and $7,000 for council members effective December 2026 — Simmons said rising property taxes do not cover county needs. Council President Brad Young said council members will discuss and possibly vote on the proposal next Tuesday. WFMD
