EDUCATION NEWS

  • County Executive Jessica Fitzwater today unveiled her proposed FY26 budget that allocates over $508 million for public education and funds school construction, employee raises, and essential services without raising taxes. The County Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. in Winchester Hall — officials say further details will be discussed at the meeting.  Frederick County

  • Family and friends are fighting to bring home a Frederick County man held by ICE as they seek a prompt review of his case (official details remain scarce).  Frederick News-Post
  • Today, several elected officials from Frederick County at local, county and state levels are hosting a listening session — to hear community concerns over the impending closure of the FCC children's center.  Frederick News-Post
  • Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater proposed a $1.02 billion operating budget for fiscal year 2026 (which does not raise property or income tax rates). County officials will review the proposal (and decide on next steps) in the coming weeks.  Frederick News-Post
