GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Frederick County are invited to share housing priorities via a brief online survey open from April 16 to May 16 and virtual meetings on April 22 — the input will help shape future housing initiatives and guide Community Development Block Grant funding. Frederick County
- ➤ Frederick County plans to use the remaining COVID-era grant funds on projects to address food insecurity among residents+ the county will allocate the funds to new food assistance initiatives+ further details on the spending have not been released. Frederick News-Post
- ➤ The Frederick Municipal Airport’s proposed $1.1 million budget for fiscal year 2026 will fund a new truck+ pay increases+ and expanded part-time positions, and the airport will continue to pay for itself for a second straight year. Frederick News-Post
- ➤ Frederick County’s Executive and Council members will receive modest pay raises approved by the County Council that will increase the Executive’s salary from $137,000 to $143,000 in fiscal 2027 then to $150,000 later and boost Council members’ pay from $35,000 to $36,000 in fiscal 2027 then to $38,000 in fiscal 2029—figures that fall short of the Compensation Review Commission’s recommendations; the new salaries will take effect when the elected officials are sworn in December 2026. - ➤ The Frederick Police Department has proposed a $50.8 million budget for fiscal year 2026 that will give officers higher pay+ new vehicles and add a live streaming feature to their body cameras. Department officials say these measures will improve operations when the new fiscal year begins+ ensuring better public safety. Frederick News-Post
- ➤ The Maryland State Highway Administration said a contractor for Quantum Corporation began work on underground fiber optic cables along a 10-mile section of northbound I-270 from Md Route 109 to I-70 last night, closing one lane until 5:00 a.m. today. The contractor will work on the southbound lanes next as part of a two-month project scheduled from Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.—a plan that may cause travel delays. WFMD
- ➤ The Frederick Parking Department has proposed a $4.6 million budget for fiscal year 2026 that will fund new security cameras — emergency call boxes and parking space availability signs to boost parking security. Frederick News-Post
