ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fiery rollover crash on I-70 between Hollow Road and Harmony Road in Myersville occurred just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 23—two adults with serious injuries were airlifted to trauma centers and another was transported by ground as first responders cleared wreckage and began investigating the cause. - ➤ Amazon Data Services Inc. is seeking a permit to construct 99 emergency diesel generators for its data center project in Frederick County — county officials will soon review the permit request. Frederick News-Post

- ➤ A new kinetic sculpture called Equilibrium was installed in Carroll Creek—after a breezy February meeting in Boyds led by Margot de Messières—and has drawn local interest. Frederick News-Post
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four local elected officials sent a letter to Frederick Community College asking to pause plans to close its Children's Center—this delay would give parents time to secure alternative childcare and let the college explore partnerships to keep the facility open. The center is scheduled to close on May 16 and then be repurposed as a workforce training center beginning in fall. WFMD
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Frederick County Energy and Environment—working with Solid Waste and Recycling—are selling rain barrels and compost bins online at discounted prices to help save water and reduce waste, with orders available until June 21 and pickup at the Recycling Drop Off Center at 9031 Reichs Ford Road on Saturday, June 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., while officials said no sales tax, shipping fees, proceeds, or refunds will be offered on unclaimed orders. - ➤ The American Lung Association released its 2025 State of the Air report on April 23, showing that 156 million people in the U.S. are breathing unhealthy air because of high ozone smog and particle pollution. In Maryland, Frederick, Montgomery, and Dorchester counties received a D grade while Garrett County recorded no days of unhealthy air — raising concerns about local health risks. Daily Voice

- ➤ The Frederick County Council has proposed an increase in the Frederick City real property tax rate from $1.0077 to $1.0079 per $100 of assessed value for the tax year beginning July 1 and will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Winchester Hall, First Floor Hearing Room, 12 E. Church Street (residents may offer 3-minute public comments during the hearing). Frederick County

- ➤ This Saturday, residents can drop off unused or expired pill and patch medications and sharps at two Frederick County sites between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.—the Health Department at 350 Montevue Lane and the Law Enforcement Center at 110 Airport Drive, with no liquid medications accepted. WFMD
