CRIME NEWS

  • Frederick Police arrested 42-year-old Carl Terrance Mobley, Jr. on Wednesday after he fled from a vehicle tampering incident on North Bentz Street—a search found crack cocaine, digital scales and a loaded Taurus 9 mm handgun, and he now faces multiple drug, firearm and theft charges while being held at the Adult Detention Center without bond.  WFMD
  • Frederick police arrested Carl Terrace Mobley Jr., 42 after a woman found him smoking in her parked car on the 500 block of North Bentz Street Wednesday and he fled when confronted—he now faces charges including theft from a motor vehicle, controlled substance offenses, and firearm-related crimes while remaining at the Frederick Adult Detention Center without bond.  DC News Now

  • On Wednesday, the Frederick County Board of Education awarded a bid for its Employee Assistance Program — the program will help staff access support services when needed.  Frederick News-Post
  • A junior at Maryland School for the Deaf won the 2025 National Deaf Academic Bowl’s individual competition and was named an all-star. Her win highlights MSD’s success on a national stage.  Frederick News-Post
  • Frederick Community College launched a cybersecurity program that trains students to manage cyberattacks and protect computer networks. The course gives real-world experience in policies and procedures—students earn a Security Operations Analyst certification as an industry-recognized credential.  DC News Now
  • The Frederick County Board of Education discussed ways to close a $21.7 million budget gap on Wednesday as it worked to meet the June 30 deadline for fiscal year 2026. Officials will continue evaluating revenue increases and spending cuts to address the shortfall.  Frederick News-Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Frederick’s annual drinking water quality report shows that all measured contaminant levels in the city’s water are below legal limits—ensuring the supply remains safe for residents.  Frederick News-Post
  • Residents of Frederick County can drop off household hazardous waste at no cost on May 3 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Keys Stadium’s upper-level parking lot—residents must bring their county ID and be prepared for potential wait times.  Frederick County

  • David Williams is running for commissioner and as a write-in burgess candidate on the Woodsboro Town Council in May—he says he will lower taxes and encourage more residents to join local government.  Frederick News-Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • Frederick will host the annual Running Festival over May 3—4 with the 5K race on a new course Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and the half marathon on a modified route Sunday starting at 7:00 a.m. Road closures and traffic delays are planned between 6:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.—residents in affected areas should plan alternate routes and move parked vehicles.  City of Frederick
