- ➤ Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater announced $1.2 million in Community Partnership Grant awards today to 32 local nonprofits, with funds prioritized for homelessness and housing, public health, quality of life and the arts from nearly $3 million in requests—grant funds are not final until the budget passes and County Council President Brad Young and Vice President Kavonté Duckett joined the announcement. - ➤ A Maryland man, Arcelius Dunbar Lyle, 57, of Hagerstown was sentenced on April 29th to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking in Frederick—he groomed a woman for seven months and, while in jail, instructed her to abuse her 4-year-old child, authorities said. Daily Voice
- ➤ Frederick Police continue investigating a double shooting on Monday night along Key Parkway (two men were medivaced to Shock Trauma) and confirmed both were discharged early Tuesday (the investigation remains active). WFMD

- ➤ A Brunswick High School English teacher received the 2025 Charles E. Tressler Distinguished Teacher Award, recognizing excellence in classroom instruction (a rare district honor). Frederick News-Post

- ➤ Frederick County will host a Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off event on Saturday, May 3rd at the upper-level parking lot of Keys Stadium from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Residents must bring hazardous items such as pesticides or batteries along with proof of residency—long lines are expected so vehicles should remain parked. WFMD

- ➤ Maryland DOT Secretary Paul Wiedelfeld said that work will soon start on widening US Route 15 from Interstate 70 to Md. Route 26 in Frederick to add a third lane. The design work is set to finish next year & the $160-million project will next move to bidding, with construction likely to begin by 2028. WFMD
