COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Frederick students used art to share their experiences with mental health—this project, led by the Transformative Arts Project and the Frederick Youth Council, gives youth a way to express themselves through photography and storytelling. Their work is now on display at New Spires Art Gallery on West Patrick Street in downtown Frederick.  DC News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 28 at 6:40 p.m., Frederick Police responded to shots fired on the 1100 block of Key Parkway where two men were injured and later transported to a hospital, and the suspect Nyzeir Sampson was arrested on May 5 (after a coordinated effort with the U.S. Marshals Task Force) while the investigation continues.  City of Frederick

  • Pat Hazell, a Seinfeld writer and Tonight Show veteran, will lead a comedy workshop in Frederick and present his one-man show The Wonder Bread Years at an upcoming event—details about the schedule are pending.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Thurmont Mayor John Kinnaird said the town’s $1.8 million tax base makes it hard to fund road repairs and maintenance—calling the State Highway Administration’s work on repaving North Church Street a relief after two years of delays. He noted that small towns must make the best use of limited funds to keep roads in shape.  WFMD
