CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Frederick man Jerome Mario Britton, 45, was sentenced on Monday to 13.5 years in prison for 2nd-degree assault and 17 counts of violating a protective order after he punched his wife in the eye on August 15th, 2024 — her injuries led to a hospital visit and police documentation. WFMD
- ➤ Frederick Police arrested 71-year-old Leslie Carol Lafors last weekend for disorderly conduct, obstructing and hindering, and two counts of failure to obey a lawful order after she tried to flee a busy parking lot on Saturday—on Sunday, officers also arrested 49-year-old Hubert Edward Smith for 1st-degree assault, 2nd-degree assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and carrying and concealing a dangerous weapon after he threatened an acquaintance with a hunting knife. - ➤ On May 12, scaffolding installation began at Trinity Chapel at 10 West Church Street to start the planned restoration of Frederick’s historic clock tower—the city's oldest spire. The Durable Restoration Company leads work expected to take three to four weeks with periodic Church Street closures for installing structural beams. WFMD
- ➤ A new PhotoVoice project is on view at New Spire Arts Stages and highlights the mental health of youth with white-framed photos set against a brick wall—one photo even includes a literal sparkle—adding a creative twist to local art. Frederick News-Post

- ➤ The Frederick County Health Department reported a sewage overflow in a section of Lake Linganore that led officials to urge residents and visitors in the Linganore Community to avoid swimming or full body immersion from southwest of Coldstream Beach to the dam until June 2. Boating and fishing remain allowed, but anyone entering the water should wash thoroughly with soap and warm water. WFMD

- ➤ The Frederick County Health Department said a dangerous synthetic cannabinoid called 5F-ADB—also known as Spice and K2—was found near Frederick on May 19 at 9:59 p.m. and warned that it could cause users to become unresponsive as if experiencing an opioid overdose. WFMD
