CRIME NEWS

  • A Frederick man was sentenced to over 13 years in prison after assaulting a woman and repeatedly violating a protective order by contacting her after the attack.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Frederick City Council pushed back on a proposal to spend over $90,000 on new office furniture for the Trinity building while the Department of Housing and Human Services prepares to move its services.  Frederick News-Post
  • Frederick will raise fees for monthly parking permits, towing services, airport operations and park pavilions, and the fee changes will affect local users of these services.  Frederick News-Post
  • On Tuesday night, the Frederick County Council approved a bill that sets design and siting rules for data centers—limiting them to areas zoned general industrial and limited industrial—and the bill will take effect after 90 days.  WFMD
  • The City Council is looking at a charter change that now needs all members to vote to cancel a mayor’s veto—a rule that was not meant to happen. Council members plan to explore options to fix this unintended change.  Frederick News-Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Cheryl Cioffi was named President and CEO of Frederick Health Hospital and will take over on July 1 after serving the hospital for 28 years. She said her focus is on supporting the community as the hospital works on workforce challenges and plans to boost its IT systems—she replaces Tom Kleinhanzl, who will retire on October 31.  WFMD
