  • The Affordable Housing Council of Frederick County launched the 'Voices of Affordable Housing' video series to show housing challenges and offer help to those in need. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Maryland State Police Aviation crews rescued an injured hiker on May 25 at Wolf Rock in Catoctin State Park—hoisting him from a remote cliff to a trauma center—and rescued a stranded kayaker on May 26 from a remote section of the Youghiogheny River before transferring him to a hospital.  Daily Voice
  • On May 27, a crash near Exit 62 in New Market — where a BMW SUV hit a box truck that was then hit by a tractor trailer — killed two people in the box truck and closed I-70 for several hours.  WFMD

CRIME NEWS

  • A stolen Honda Pilot crashed into two vehicles and overturned on May 23 at 1:50 p.m. near N Market Street in Frederick, blocking traffic for over two hours—police said a 22-year-old driver from Woodbridge was seriously injured and taken to hospital while another driver had minor injuries.  DC News Now
  • Frederick County deputies arrested four suspects from Washington, D.C. in New Market after a stolen vehicle pursuit on May 25 resulted in multiple crashes and minor injuries to a deputy — one vehicle struck a tree and another hit a patrol car as law enforcement joined with other agencies.  WFMD

  • Arya Bhavansikar, a Windsor Knolls Middle School student, advanced through the preliminary rounds at the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Tuesday + she represented Frederick County in the contest.  Frederick News-Post
  • United Way of Frederick County is accepting school supply donations for its annual Stuff the Bus drive — the donations will help local public school students and will be taken from Monday until Aug. 4.  Frederick News-Post
  • Gov. Thomas Johnson High School held its commencement ceremony on Tuesday as it bid farewell to its senior Patriots. Graduates were praised for their love—and support as they celebrated their achievements.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Frederick County Council reviewed a bill Tuesday that would create a zoning overlay to restrict data centers to limited and general industrial zones near the East Alcoa site and limit development to less than 1% of county land—officials noted the measure includes required setbacks from homes and state review for changes in rural legacy areas.  WFMD
