Good morning, Frederick.

Veteran and former police officer Rony Cabrera, 22, died in a three—vehicle crash on I—70 near Exit 62 in New Market when a BMW SUV hit his box truck on Sunday around 4:10 p.m. and forced his truck into a tractor trailer, which then caught fire.

Donald Bernard Brooks, 67, pleaded guilty to sex offenses against two minors and was sentenced on Wednesday to 18 years in prison — he will be on five years of supervised probation with no contact with the victims and face additional electronic monitoring after his release.

Mayor Michael O’Connor said the new Frederick Police Department headquarters on East All Saints Street is nearing completion as officials plan a public open house.

The open house — scheduled for June — will let residents tour the facility before the department begins operations.
