ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Frederick County awarded seven Agricultural Innovation Grants totaling $125,000 in March 2025 to local businesses that will expand new projects and create 16 jobs. The grants were selected competitively from 32 applications worth $1,250,000 and support initiatives such as sparkling wine expansion and facility upgrades. WFMD
- ➤ O’Connor Plumbing in Sporting Ridge has opened a technology center to train apprentices in plumbing—a two- to three-year program that leads to earnings of up to $50 an hour and helps meet the growing demand in Frederick County. Workforce Frederick warns that national trends could leave the industry short by half a million skilled plumbers by 2027. DC News Now

- ➤ The Frederick County Department of Highway Operations will close Reichs Ford Road between address 9729 and Ijamsville Road for about two weeks to repair a small bridge damaged in an accident—officials say the repair work is needed to restore safe travel. WFMD
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ TGD Cuts, LLC (from Jessup) said it is recalling several cucumber-based products made with cucumbers from Bedner Growers after a Salmonella outbreak linked to produce that made at least 45 people sick and sent 16 to the hospital. The recalled items, which include pre-packaged salsas, salads and produce trays with use-by dates from May 19 to May 28, were sold in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and North Carolina, and there have been no reported illnesses tied to them.
