  • The city announced a temporary road closure on June 28 for a scheduled Pride event—drivers are advised to use alternate routes as the closure will affect local traffic.  City of Frederick

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three people were injured after a FoodPro tractor-trailer collided with a car on I-270 near Doctor Perry Road just before 8 a.m.—responders took the driver and two truck occupants to the hospital while crews closed northbound lanes until the crash was cleared.  DC News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Maryland State Police say gunfire hit a 2018 GMC Sierra near Mount Airy after leaving a Frederick Fairgrounds event on June 14, killing 20-year-old Eduardo Alexander Alvarado Urrea and injuring at least two others around 11:40 p.m. - investigators are seeking dashcam footage from eastbound I-70 between 11:30 p.m. and midnight.  Daily Voice
  • Detectives said 23-year-old Tafari Ron Clauzel (a Fort Washington resident) was charged in Florida with first-degree murder after fatally shooting 21-year-old Corenlius Wilson on May 19 at the 2800 block of Wood Hollow Terrace, and he will be extradited back to Maryland.  Daily Voice

  • A new biography called The American Look examines how Frederick native Claire McCardell changed American fashion—her work influenced everyday style by shaping key trends such as the hoodie.  Frederick News-Post
  • The Catoctin Furnace Historical Society will commemorate Juneteenth on June 19 at Catoctin Mountain Park and the village of Catoctin Furnace+participants include the Thurmont Lions Club, AARCH Society, the historic Harriet Chapel and Scouts BSA.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Frederick reminds athletic programs that the 2025 Spring Athletic Field/Court payment is due at the end of the season or by July 1, with payments accepted through your account or by calling 301.600.1450 on weekdays after 9 a.m.; payment must be received before Fall registration online from July 1 to 15. Applicants must submit a Certificate of Insurance (naming the City of Frederick as additional insured) with their application to meet new coverage requirements.  City of Frederick
  • Frederick City Council unanimously approved spending $280,700 to print and mail ballots for the upcoming mayoral and council elections+ the decision will help ensure voters receive their ballots by mail.  Frederick News-Post
