  • Frederick County will hold a Juneteenth celebration Sunday along Carroll Creek—where over 70 community partners, including food trucks, health services and a Walgreens immunization station, will serve local residents. Delta Sigma Theta alumnae are hosting the event to unite the community and honor the legacy of freedom.  DC News Now
  • Eight-year-old Isabella Meister attended a Fire & Rescue program today to learn firefighting skills and said she would choose a career as both a singer & a firefighter if she could have two jobs.  Frederick News-Post

CRIME NEWS

  • The trial of Santos Felipe Reyes Valle, 40, for the murder of Jose Pedro Hernandez at a Home Depot parking lot on McCain Drive continued on Wednesday when the prosecution called more witnesses—jurors were dismissed at 3:00 p.m. and the trial will resume Friday at 9:00 a.m.  WFMD

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jeff Madsen, owner of Frederick Magic Theater & Lounge, turned a long-held dream into reality by opening the venue for evenings of wonder and illusion in Frederick — the new lounge now offers magical entertainment for local visitors.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Frederick Police Department will host a ribbon cutting and open house for its new headquarters on Monday, June 30th at 100 East All Saints Street from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with displays from its Special Response Team, Drone Unit and K9 Officers. The 65,000 square-foot four-story building—bought in 2021—replaced its old facility at the County Court House.  WFMD

HEALTH NEWS

  • A raccoon captured near Memorial Park in Thurmont on June 13 tested positive for rabies after fighting a dog, and health officials urged anyone exposed to seek medical advice + pet owners to ensure their pets are vaccinated.  DC News Now
