CRIME NEWS
- ➤ State police said that Jeremy De La Torre, 33, of Frederick and Ashley Salazar, 25, of Clarksburg died in a wrong-way crash on northbound I-270 at Germantown Road shortly before 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 5 — Salazar’s Chevy Cruz struck De La Torre’s Honda Accord head-on, and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. - ➤ The jury in Frederick is scheduled to resume deliberations at 9:00 a.m. today at the courthouse after Tuesday's session ended without a verdict in the trial of Keon Naki Wilson-Hawkins, 21, charged with 1st-degree murder, conspiracy to commit 1st-degree murder, kidnapping and carjacking for the death of Brice Boots, 65—whose body was found off Crum Road in Walkersville in January 2024—. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ County Executive Jessica Fitzwater released an overlay map that limits data center development to 2,500 acres near the former Eastalco plant in Adamstown—this plan keeps centers away from Carroll Manor Elementary School and 500 feet from homes while reserving five acres of farmland for every one acre used. The map will go to the County Planning Commission on July 16 and then to state agencies for a 60-day review before a public hearing and vote. WFMD
