CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Frederick County deputies stopped a vehicle on I-70 near New Design Road at 10:30 p.m. on July 8 and, after a K9 unit alerted them to a narcotic odor, searched the car—finding 33 containers of suspected fentanyl weighing over 45 pounds and 12 containers of suspected cocaine weighing over 8 grams—and arrested 38-year-old Thomas Smallwood without bond, who now faces multiple possession charges and is under supervision for a 2022 armed robbery. - ➤ Thomas Smallwood, 38, a convicted armed robber on parole from Cumberland, was arrested after a Tuesday night traffic stop on I-70 near New Design Road on July 8 when deputies and a K9 unit found about 45.7 grams of fentanyl and 8.4 grams of cocaine in his vehicle — he now faces multiple charges and is held without bond. - ➤ Frederick County has designated the area near the Monocacy MARC Station off Urbana Pike as a Transit-Oriented Development site — a move that gives the county access to financial and planning resources for transit-centered improvements. The designation lasts for 10 years — MDOT officials will meet annually to track development progress. Frederick County
- ➤ The State Highway Administration began improving US Route 40-A in Middletown between Summerswood Drive and Edgemont Road; crews filled depressions, milled the pavement, and installed a new surface—motorists face single lane closures on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Francis O. Day Company will use electronic message boards, signs, barrels and cones to warn drivers, and work is expected to finish by October weather permitting. WFMD
