BUSINESS NEWS

  • Frederick County Chamber of Commerce reached 1,000 members two weeks ago as it rebounded from a loss of 360 members during COVID + the group now supports local businesses through a strong network and advocacy efforts. President and CEO Rick Weldon said the milestone shows a renewed commitment to keeping Frederick's entrepreneurs connected and heard.  WFMD

CRIME NEWS

  • Three Washington, D.C. men will serve multiple years in prison for their roles in a botched home invasion in Adamstown & one of them was wounded during the incident.  Frederick News-Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Frederick Shakespeare Festival enters its seventh season—organizers report a growing audience and fresh plays. Officials say the event will offer both classic and modern productions to reach local theater fans.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Frederick County Police Department welcomed 23 new recruits (from Frederick Police Department, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Brunswick, Rockville and Gaithersburg) to begin training. The 69th Academy Class will train for several months as they prepare to join the force.  DC News Now
  • Ryan Trout, a candidate for Frederick City Council District 5, said he has a record of pushing for policies to boost housing affordability — he aims to use his experience for city leadership if elected.  Frederick News-Post
  • Frederick County Council heard testimony Tuesday night at Winchester Hall on a bill to set up an overlay zone for data centers—limiting it to industrial areas and no more than one percent of county land. Residents and local business supporters raised concerns about neighborhood impacts, resource use, and job opportunities while the process moves to the Planning Commission for more public input.  WFMD
  • Maryland has boosted Frederick County's plan to improve transit options around Francis Scott Key Mall by offering incentives to make the area more walkable, bikeable, and transit-friendly—measures that the county says will enhance local transportation and development.  Frederick News-Post
