COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce will host SHE Week from August 4 to August 8 to honor local women’s strength, heart and fairness. Conference Day is on August 5 at the Clarion Inn from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the SHE Pitch event is on August 6 at Hood College from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - winners will earn $5,000 in funding. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, July 15, a deputy with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office stopped Donta Shawn Allen near Route 340 for an equipment violation and later used a K9 unit that alerted after detecting over 13 ounces of suspected cocaine—leading to his arrest and his current hold without bond as the investigation continues. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Maryland singer Anna Wilson was shocked when her mother tricked her into auditioning on America’s Got Talent instead of joining a VIP tour—she sang two songs and a judge said her first song was boring. The Gaithersburg native got three yes votes and one no vote and moved to the next round of the contest. Daily Voice
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine welcomed its inaugural class of 90 students this July — the first group joining the new program. Frederick News-Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Transit Services of Frederick County reported a record year by serving 928,650 riders from July 1, 2024 to June 30, boosted by fare-free rides, expanded outreach, and a fresh rebrand. The agency will build on this success in Fiscal Year 2026+ it plans to add more service improvements to meet local needs. Frederick County
- ➤ Transit Services of Frederick County had a record year in fiscal year 2025 with more than 982,000 riders using its service (fiscal year 2025 ran from July 1 to June 30) as the agency expanded outreach and refreshed its look. WFMD
- ➤ County Executive Jessica Fitzwater and community partners unveiled the Mobile Career Center on July 16th—an innovative unit that will travel across Frederick County to help underserved residents with job search assistance and career services. The center features computer workstations, resume support, and interview coaching, and it will visit local job fairs and community events to strengthen workforce resources. WFMD
- ➤ Tim Davis was reappointed to the Frederick County Planning Commission for a second five-year term (extending his service) as he will help guide county planning (supporting local development). Frederick News-Post
