- ➤ Frederick County held its second annual Veterans Appreciation Day on July 19 at Frederick Health Village in a free, family-friendly event to honor local veterans—County Executive Jessica Fitzwater proclaimed the day. Five veterans received handcrafted Quilts of Valor at the event—an effort organized by the Veterans Advisory Council and Division of Aging and Independence that also featured a resource fair, workshops, and live entertainment. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jerome Mario Britton, a Pennsylvania man, was sentenced on Monday in Frederick County Circuit Court to a 30-year prison term for drug offenses + an additional 13.5 years for domestic assault and violating a protective order after police arrested him following a tip on Sept. 4th. WFMD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Mount Saint Mary's University's physician assistant program received provisional accreditation and will start in January 2026 in Emmitsburg after renovations to a local facility in partnership with the Daughters of Charity. The program lasts 24 months, fills 42 seats, accepts applications until August 1, and interviews candidates in September & prepares graduates to sit for the national PA certification exam. WFMD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Frederick city officials said on July 17 that District Three Voter ID cards did not show the designated polling location and have been fixed—corrected cards were sent to residents. Citizens will use these cards in the primary on September 9 and the general on November 4. WFMD
