ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 52-year-old Frederick County woman, Yaovi Magloire Guedoh, was fatally struck while crossing Columbia Pike at Tech Road on July 18—Montgomery County detectives said a black 2020 GMC Terrain hit her while she walked west and the driver remained at the scene as the investigation continues.  WFMD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cytomos, a biotech company from the United Kingdom, launched its U.S. expansion through the Maryland Global Gateway program and hosted a Networking and Device Demo Event at FITCI’s Ballenger Center Drive in Frederick on July 16. The firm began local operations in March with its first Maryland-based team member, Cailyn McNeil—aiming to boost cell and gene therapy applications with innovative automation.  Frederick County

CRIME NEWS

  • Jerome Mario Britton, a 46-year-old from Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for trafficking fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine in Frederick after police arrested him following a tip last fall — authorities seized baggies of drugs during the stop.  Daily Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Longtime Maryland resident Reza Zavvar was detained by ICE on June 28 while walking his dog Duke in Gaithersburg—he now faces deportation as he is held in a Texas detention center. His attorney must file a legal response by next week—family and supporters have raised funds to help him.  Daily Voice
  • At Tuesday's County Council meeting, Sarah Price explained that the county executive and council will shape the legislative package for the 2026 Maryland General Assembly — with ideas due by the end of September, a town hall on October 8 at 7 p.m., and a hearing on December 6 at Winchester Hall. The council approved a resolution to accept state funding through a no-interest loan — which will fund water service improvements for three PFAS-contaminated communities, with construction set to begin in September.  WFMD
  • Frederick County will raise Environmental Health Service fees on September 1st to match program expenses—this is the first fee change since 2009—and the new fees will affect pool inspections, well permits and well tests, while the pet rabies fee remains $10.  WFMD
