CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Frederick police arrested Eugene Rilla Facon after he allegedly robbed two people at gunpoint on Tuesday—one incident on W Seventh Street around 1 p.m. and a second on Wormans Mill Road before his car was found at a Walmart parking lot on Monocacy Boulevard. DC News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Frederick County's school system has launched the annual Stuff the Bus campaign to collect school supplies for students for the upcoming academic year—citizens can drop off items at locations such as the School System headquarters and United Way sites until August 4th. WFMD
- ➤ Hood College announced that it will start a new sports entertainment and marketing minor this fall (2025-26) to meet growing interest in the field. Frederick News-Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today at Frederick High School Auditorium, the Division of Fire and Rescue Services will honor 42 new recruits who completed a 28-week training program with over 1,000 hours of coursework covering emergency procedures, vehicle operations, firefighter safety and technical rescues. Many rookie firefighters will begin their station assignments the next day — and the ceremony will be recorded for future viewing. Frederick County
- ➤ On Thursday, Frederick City Council questioned elements of the planning process and traffic measures during a workshop on a proposed rezoning for a cricket stadium. Frederick News-Post
- ➤ Pastor Daniel Fuentes Espinal, who has lived here for 24 years and leads a local congregation, was detained by ICE while shopping at Lowe's in Easton and is now held in a Baltimore detention center where he sleeps on a concrete floor with no bed — his family says this treatment is unacceptable. Community members expressed alarm over the detention — noting that a fundraiser quickly raised over $8,000 to help his family cope with the situation. Daily Voice
