- ➤ A flash flood swept 13-year-old Mason Kearns into a storm drain 20 feet from his family's front door on July 31 at 5:20 p.m. in Mount Airy—emergency responders worked over 45 minutes to drain the water but he drowned as his family watched. Daily Voice

- ➤ On Saturday, crowds gathered by Carroll Creek to enjoy Indonesian cuisine including spring rolls and chicken satay skewers as part of a culinary event that celebrated Indonesian food and culture—bringing local community members together. Frederick News-Post
