CULTURE NEWS

  • Frederick Art Club visual artists are showing a diverse collection of artwork in the Summer Glow exhibit at the Hodson Gallery at Hood College+the exhibit is open to local visitors. The show is held in the Tatum Arts Center+it features work by local talent.  Frederick News-Post
  • R.L. Stine, the famed horror writer, will speak in Frederick this October as part of local Halloween events. Details about the event—such as the time and place—will be announced soon.  Frederick News-Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Frederick County Public Schools will open for the academic year on August 20 as staff finish cleaning, planning bus routes and checking technology while students return. Two new elementary schools in Valley and Green Valley will open soon — construction continues on other school buildings and enrollment is expected to grow to nearly 48,900 by September 30.  WFMD

  • Local groups are planning candidate forums for the Frederick primary election to let voters hear from candidates and learn about their ideas.  Frederick News-Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fieldsheer Apparel Technologies issued a recall for about 45,000 heated socks after 11 reports of discomfort, including four cases of burns and blisters. The recalled socks, which feature lithium-ion battery packs and were sold from August 2021 to June 2025, should not be used and customers are urged to contact the company for a refund or replacement—dispose of the batteries according to local hazardous waste rules.  Daily Voice
