- ➤ United Way of Frederick County will start accepting applications from local nonprofits on Wednesday as it prepares for its upcoming Unity Campaign. The organization announced this on Monday. Frederick News-Post
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Frederick Police reported on August 11th, 2025—at 4:14 p.m.—that scam text messages from a fake Maryland State Department of Vehicles threatened citizens with license suspension and other penalties unless payment was made immediately through a suspicious link. WFMD
- ➤ A missing 16-year-old girl was found safe on 7th Street in Frederick after a joint operation on Aug. 7 led to the arrest of 27-year-old Denis Misael Dominguez Reyes—an alleged MS-13 gang member facing a Final Order of Removal—while authorities reunited her with her family. DC News Now

- ➤ Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman announced that Shop Maryland Tax Free Week runs until Saturday, August 16th and lets shoppers buy clothing and shoes under $100 without the 6% tax—consumers can also save on the first $40 of backpacks while electronic items are excluded. WFMD

- ➤ Frederick County Government and the City of Frederick released a draft of their Community Climate and Energy Action Plan and invite residents to share feedback by August 22 — the plan details ways to reduce emissions and boost local resilience. Frederick County
- ➤ Dave Schmidt and Peter Brehm, District 3 City Council candidates, shared their views on housing affordability and transportation at the C. Burr Artz Public Library on Monday—each presenting different plans to improve Frederick’s services and future growth. Frederick News-Post

- ➤ Neuhaus Chocolates NV issued a recall for its Belgian Chocolate Moments Smurfs 'Popping Milk Chocolates with Cookies' after discovering the product contained undeclared wheat that can trigger severe allergic reactions.
