- ➤ A Maryland family mourns the sudden death of 19-year-old Diamond Catalan after she suffered a heart attack. Her sister has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser—more than $7,500 raised of an $11,000 goal—to cover the funeral expenses. Daily Voice
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Frederick Police warned residents that thieves stole outgoing mail containing checks from mailboxes, altered them for greater sums and cashed them, and recommended using electronic payments, mailing checks close to pickup times and monitoring bank accounts—residents are urged to contact police if suspicious activity continues. - ➤ Riverdale resident Akim Toure, 27, was fatally shot in Washington, DC on Aug. 3 while he stepped in to protect a stranger—his family said he was remembered as a brave man who put others before himself. Daily Voice

- ➤ The oldest continuously-running male choir will perform in Frederick—promising to bring its cherished musical tradition to local audiences—and will soon offer an evening of classic songs that honor its long history. Frederick News-Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Beginning Monday, August 18th, the Frederick County Department of Highway Operations will close the part of Ridge Road between Round Hill Road and Ridge Crest Drive from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily for about one week so crews can replace a failing culvert pipe at 7237 Ridge Road—detour signage will be in place. - ➤ Frederick County and the city released a draft climate and energy action plan Monday for public review—officials are seeking local input to guide future energy strategies. Frederick News-Post
