CRIME NEWS

  • A Frederick woman, 52, was arrested on August 14 at 7:30 p.m. on charges of sexual abuse of a minor—possession of child pornography and filming a sex act—after detectives served a search warrant at her home in the 6900 block of Trout Lane.  WFMD
  • Frederick police arrested two juveniles after they were seen breaking into a business on South McCain Drive early Thursday morning — the suspects fled at first but returned later when officers set up a surveillance operation.  WFMD
  • Moo Moo Cows has reopened today after vandals broke its windows and smashed its display cases twice last week, and the shop is open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wed. through Sun. (Investigators are asking anyone with tips to call Metro Crime Stoppers.)  Daily Voice

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nearly half of parents expect to pay more for school lunches this year as the average cost rises to about $6.15—a climb linked to a 2.4% rise in grocery prices since last year, especially on apples, jelly, and milk. Many parents are switching to store brands and cheaper items while over half plan to use school-provided lunches that cost about $3—a change aimed at easing higher food expenses.  Daily Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Manor Woods Road will be closed between Ballenger Creek Pike and New Design Road on or about August 18 for about six months to build a roundabout 0.8 miles west of New Design Road — detour signs will be placed along Ballenger Creek Pike, English Muffin Way, and New Design Road — and utility lines will be relocated as part of the project.  Frederick County
  • Frederick City Council candidate Libby Taylor said housing and childcare will drive careful growth planning as the Frederick primary approaches—she stated that development must have clear priorities and not occur just for growth's sake.  Frederick News-Post
