  • The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit #282 in Woodsboro held a quilt raffle to raise money for the Poppy fund that benefits veterans and their families—supporting ongoing community efforts.  Frederick News-Post
  • A Maryland mother remains stranded in Germany after her husband died during a family trip, leaving her to care for two young children and manage legal and financial challenges abroad. Her family said community support is growing through donations—$23,660 raised out of a $28,000 goal by Friday—to cover urgent costs.  Daily Voice

CRIME NEWS

  • Adolfo Nimrod Hernandez-Ramos, 42, and Tony Marcos Ferreira-Dos Santos, 30, both accused of assaulting federal officers, clashed with ICE in two violent encounters in Maryland—Hernandez-Ramos reportedly threatened to slice an officer’s eye on June 6 while Ferreira-Dos Santos struggled with officers on June 8—and now face charges of assault, resisting, and interfering with federal officers.  Daily Voice

  • Five candidates for two at-large City Council seats spoke at a forum on Friday in Frederick and discussed issues like cricket+affordability+immigration ahead of the primary.  Frederick News-Post
  • Manor Woods Road between Ballenger Creek Pike and New Design Road will close on Monday, August 18th to allow construction of a roundabout 0.8 miles west of New Design Road — detour signs will be set along Ballenger Creek Pike, English Muffin Way, and New Design Road and the project will last six months, weather permitting.  WFMD
