CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Frederick resident Raphael Mayorga, 21, was sentenced to 22 years and 60 days in prison yesterday for intentionally striking Sgt. Patrick Kepp, who lost his legs in a 2023 I-270 crash after Mayorga drove over 160 mph in a Dodge Challenger—officers said he did not brake and tried to flee on foot. Daily Voice

- ➤ Teacher Brandie McCoy died unexpectedly on August 12 at University Park Elementary School+ her family and friends are raising funds for a beachside memorial service to honor her life and the joy she brought to students and colleagues. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Transit Services of Frederick County has launched a pilot bus stop on the Emmitsburg/Thurmont Shuttle that stops at Cunningham Falls State Park in Thurmont. The service will run three weekday trips and two Saturday trips until September 20—giving community members and visitors a free transit option while paying the park fee. Frederick County
- ➤ Frederick County Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. in Winchester Hall’s First Floor Hearing Room at 12 East Church Street—seeking input on three legislative proposals that address disabled veterans’ property tax credit, a personal property tax on data centers, and credit card usage for gaming.
