BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pastry chain Paris Baguette is set to open in Frederick. Contractor Waseem Mohamad (who built about 20 locations for the chain) will help bring the new store to the community.  Frederick News-Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Frederick County Board of Education approved month-long extensions for Carroll Creek Montessori, Sabillasville Environmental, and Frederick Classical Charter schools to continue negotiating agreements with FCPS.  Frederick News-Post
  • Frederick County Public Schools accepted $2.4M in state grants to order six new electric school buses and install charging stations – the order supports a move toward cleaner transportation.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maryland Lottery and Gaming urges sports fans to use only the 24 state-authorized online gaming platforms—11 for sports betting and 13 for fantasy sports—because illegal sites do not follow state rules that protect identities and ensure winnings are paid. The agency reminds players to wager responsibly and to check the official list online.  WFMD
  • The Frederick County Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday, September 2nd at Winchester Hall starting at 7:00 p.m. to discuss three legislative proposals—one to let the county tax data centers, another to adjust the disabled veterans property tax credit income limit, and a third to allow fire companies to accept credit cards for fundraising.  WFMD
  • Walkersville officials approved road closures for two parades scheduled in October and December. The closures will ensure safe routes for the events—traffic will be redirected along alternative paths.  Frederick News-Post
