GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Frederick County’s Division of Emergency Management urges residents and businesses to take one small step to be ready for emergencies during September, National Preparedness Month. The county will host events including pet adoption kit draws, senior center health checks, library activity book pickups, and a SKYWARN Flood Class on September 17—each offering a practical way to boost emergency readiness.  Frederick County
  • Frederick Police Department began a warning period on Sept. 2 for new speed and red-light cameras in Frederick. Citations will begin on Oct. 2 at cameras located on the 7900 Block of Opossumtown Pike + intersections of Monocacy Blvd and Liberty Rd, and on Routzahn Way and Liberty Rd + as enforcement starts then.  DC News Now
  • On Tuesday, the Frederick County Council voted in a split vote to pass a bill that creates a special zoning mechanism for data centers — extending to electric substations.  Frederick News-Post
  • Lesha Chandler was appointed as Director of the Division of Family Services after serving as Deputy Director since April—she brings over 20 years of experience in child welfare, community partnerships, and public service.  WFMD
  • Potomac Avenue will be closed daily between addresses 6812 and 6817 starting September 8 for about three days—6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.—so county highway operations can install a culvert box on an existing pipe. Contact details are available for further information.  Frederick County
