More than 100 neighbors gathered for the North End Civic Association's 80th anniversary on Monday at Staley Park, enjoying food, bingo, and a magic show as a new history display was unveiled.
The 70th Thurmont & Emmitsburg Community Show will honor its late co-founder and celebrate local agriculture with three days of exhibits, entertainment and family activities at Catoctin High School from Sept.
11 to Sept. 13.
Frederick’s 43rd annual In The Streets festival will fill downtown with music, food, art, activities and vendors on Sept.
12—community members have a chance to enjoy a lively day of local celebration.

After Dolly Parton’s death, the local branch of her Imagination Library received a city grant and saw a surge in donations and new applications, according to Leslie Frei.
The support reflects the community’s renewed interest in programs that encourage young readers—local educational efforts are thriving.
