CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Authorities warn that receiving an unsolicited check may be a sign of a scam—fraudsters use these checks to trick people into sending back money before the bank discovers the funds are fake. Daily Voice
- ➤ Frederick County State’s Attorney said that 19-year-old Juwuan Terry Stewart received a sentence of life plus 20 years after pleading guilty to first-degree murder and rape of a 61-year-old woman whose body was found by her daughter in Brunswick in January 2024—he committed the crime as a teenager. - ➤ Today a Frida-inspired exhibit honors Centro Hispano seniors at a local gallery—visitors explore artwork that celebrates their heritage and creativity. The exhibit is open to the public and highlights the community’s cultural legacy. City of Frederick
- ➤ The Brain Dead Live team is planning a music fest at three venues in Frederick — it will also honor the story of Snallygaster, a creature half bird and half reptile that early German immigrants told stories about. Frederick News-Post

- ➤ A new report shows that 2023 saw more households in Frederick County struggle to afford basic essentials. Young adults — and single mothers faced the highest rates of financial insecurity. Frederick News-Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Frederick County Department of Highway Operations announced that a part of Harmony Road near Myersville will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. starting Monday, September 15—allowing crews to replace a failing culvert pipe at 9404 Harmony Road. A detour will guide drivers during the one-week closure. WFMD
- ➤ Frederick City Council approved approximately $818,000 today to enhance the sewage pump station at Trinity Recreation Center on New Design Road—plans for the project improvements will be detailed soon. Frederick News-Post
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Maryland health officials have warned of measles after three cases were reported this year and raised concerns it may spread near the Pennsylvania border—Dr. Robin Motter-Mast noted that although measles is often seen as a childhood disease, adults can also get it. WFMD
