  • Kenneth Spaulding, a Maryland man, died Saturday, Sept. 13—leaving behind his young son, mother, siblings and many friends. Family and longtime friends have launched a fundraiser—supporting funeral and memorial expenses amid deep community grief.  Daily Voice

  • Gov. Wes Moore joined local officials and students from Frederick County Public Schools yesterday to break ground on a new elementary school—using a blue-handled shovel amid windy conditions.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Frederick has launched surveys asking residents to share their ideas on the design of the Westside Regional Park Community Center—feedback will guide the center's future plans.  City of Frederick
  • CSX will close the railroad crossing on Doubs Roud — west of Pleasant View Road near Adamstown — on September 29 for about three days to install new asphalt for an upgrade; detour signs will be placed along New Design Road, Mountville Road, Ballenger Creek Pike and Pleasant View Road.  Frederick County
  • On September 16, mayor Michael O’Connor secured renomination with just over 56 percent of the vote by defeating challenger Ron Beattie. The city council contests produced wins for newcomer Libby Taylor and incumbent Derrick Shackelford — tight races in Districts Three, Four, and Five set up a competitive general election in November with early voting starting in late October.  WFMD
  • United Way of Frederick County hosted a meeting on Tuesday that brought together county leaders and community partners to discuss how partnerships could improve transportation access—policy makers said these talks may lead to plans for new local projects in the coming months.  Frederick News-Post
