  • 72 Film Fest, a weekend-long filmmaking competition, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this fall in Frederick—bringing filmmakers and audiences together from across the country.  Frederick News-Post
  • Scott Grove will publish his first book 'Talking History'—a compilation of his Frederick Magazine columns that document local history—in the near future, offering readers a unique look at the past of our community.  Frederick News-Post

ECONOMY NEWS

  • More families in Frederick are buying Hamburger Helper as grocery and beef prices rise, with sales up 14.5% in 2025 through August. Eagle Foods bought the brand in 2022 and kept its price at about $2 to help stretch grocery dollars—showing how rising costs are straining budgets.  Daily Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Representative April McClain Delaney introduced the FLAME Act to require a 30-day notice for class cancellations at the National Fire Academy after FEMA canceled classes on March 7 without warning, leaving fire fighters with unreimbursed travel costs. She said the bill—expected to move forward in the coming months—will ensure proper notice and help fire departments recover expenses.  WFMD

  • On Sept. 20, Western United Fish Company recalled 3,314.7 pounds of Kirkland Signature brand Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke sold at Costco after its supplier reported a Listeria positive test in green onions—customers are urged to discard the product and contact Costco for a refund—no illnesses have been reported.  Daily Voice
  • The Frederick County Health Department said a man was bitten on his thigh by a small white and gray dog while running along Broadmoore Terrace North in Holly Hills at around 8:00 a.m. Saturday, and Animal Control—call 301-600-1544—is seeking any information on the dog seen with a Yorkie and a blonde woman in her mid-50s.  WFMD

  • A pet food company named Nature's Recipe is running a contest that gives 100 dog owners $100 to buy new shoes by sharing photos of their dog walks. The contest started on Sept. 22 and runs through Sept. 30 in honor of National Walk Your Dog Week with prizes sent via Venmo.  Daily Voice
