COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Retired police officer Wade Milyard Jr. now offers a free mobile laundry service for those in need in Frederick, having retired as a K9 handler in January + he uses his experience to support local residents.  Frederick News-Post

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The historic Loys Station Covered Bridge is closed after an oversized vehicle damaged its wooden span and warning portal late Sunday night or early Monday morning—Public Works crews are repairing it over the next three weeks while investigators look for the fleeing driver.  WFMD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Frederick County property owners can now apply for an annual reforestation program—according to a county press release sent Monday. The initiative will restore local trees and improve the area.  Frederick News-Post
  • An environmental expert and author explained that Frederick and the nation may need to shift from slowing climate change to adapting as its effects intensify—calling for practical measures to brace for future challenges.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Frederick County Council considered a bill to ban the sale of invasive bamboo in hardware stores and garden centers—leaving existing growers unaffected—and will review enforcement details later.  WFMD
  • Maryland will implement over 400 new laws starting October 1 that change rules for driving, criminal justice, healthcare, consumer rights, and housing regulations statewide. The changes include tougher penalties—higher fines and jail time for speeding—and new rules for expungement, data privacy, and housing reserve funding.  WFMD

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Frederick County Health Department will host a free flu vaccination clinic for uninsured children and those whose insurance does not cover the vaccine on Monday, October 6th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 350 Montevue Lane in Frederick (families must call 301-600-1733 for an appointment).  WFMD
