BUSINESS NEWS

  • The buildings that housed Firestone’s Culinary Tavern and Sidecar Bar sold for $2.6 million in late September — the new owners plan to reopen the site as a restaurant.  Frederick News-Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • Frederick will celebrate its first Moon Festival on Carroll Creek on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event, planned by the Asian American Community Center, will include cultural activities—lanterns, singing, and mooncakes—to honor a 3,000-year harvest tradition.  DC News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Officials announced that the new Middletown co-located elementary and middle school replacement project will cost up to $99 million—this cap sets the budget for the construction work.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Frederick County Council discussed supporting a nuclear power company’s future research and development facility.  Frederick News-Post
  • County Executive Jessica Fitzwater held a town hall meeting to review a 2026 Legislative Package that includes a bill to improve workforce housing, streamline school construction funding, and introduce special tax rates on commercial properties—while also updating rules to restrict school resource officers. The package will create a task force to study the school funding formula and await County Council approval before heading to Annapolis ahead of the Maryland General Assembly meeting on January 14th, 2026.  WFMD
  • On Tuesday, Frederick County Council voted to enter into agricultural preservation easements on two private properties—expanding its preservation footprint across the county.  Frederick News-Post
  • Frederick County Traffic and Permit Section announced today that construction on Walnut Street will close Bidle Road from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for two days so a developer can install new utility service — detour signs will be placed along West Main Street, US Alternate 40/Old National Pike, Marker Road and Picnic Woods Road.  Frederick County
  • Residents of Woodsboro stepped into their first town hall building on Thursday — marking a historic milestone for a town founded over 200 years ago.  Frederick News-Post
