  • The Ausherman Family Foundation gifted two downtown Frederick buildings to the YMCA of Frederick County — an effort to create an arts center and support the humanities.  Frederick News-Post
  • Regents from NSDAR chapters in Frederick, Carrollton Manor, William Winchester and Pleasant Plains in Damascus planted a Liberty Tree at Libertytown Park in October plus the planting celebrated local heritage.  Frederick News-Post

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Monocacy Brewing Company in Frederick won a bronze medal for its Riot Rye Rare pale ale at the Great American Brewery Festival in Denver (the team has worked for 12 years). The new award brings national praise to the local brewery (a first for many local brewers).  DC News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Filmmaker Jordan Miller released his new horror film The Only Ones on Amazon Prime at 6 p.m. Friday, just in time for Halloween, showing a weekend when a group of friends faces deadly misfortunes. Miller—known for his award-winning films—said his passion for spooky storytelling pushes him to create bolder projects.  DC News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Emmitsburg officials will hold a meeting Wednesday evening to discuss the town's water system after a break in the main water line lost more than 300,000 gallons and left residents without water — they will review the issue and plan next steps at the session.  Frederick News-Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Mental Health Association of Frederick County will take over the Mobile Crisis Unit from Sheppard Pratt in 2026 — the unit sends trained professionals to calm crisis situations and connect people to needed services. Interim CEO Suzi Borg said the change comes after rising costs led Sheppard Pratt to pull out of the program.  WFMD
