  • Volunteer musicians will line Market Street from Mount Olivet to Memorial Park to play 'Taps' on Veterans Day Tuesday, November 11, starting at 10:30 a.m.—a bugler from the Cavalry United Methodist Church will join at 10:59 a.m. Those who wish to participate must arrive at Mount Olivet Cemetery by 10:00 a.m. to honor local veterans.  WFMD
  • Teola Blake, a beloved mother known for her warmth and humor, died suddenly on November 7 at 3:21 p.m., leaving a deep void in her family. Her grandmother has stepped in to care for her 9-year-old son Dwayne (as the family launches a fundraiser to support his stability), underscoring a difficult loss.  Daily Voice

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A handful of young residents dug into the soil on Thursday to plant trees outside the Frederick County Department of Social Services, supporting a program that boosts the local tree canopy—while teaching youth practical skills.   • Most Frederick County Public Libraries employees declared their intention to unionize after submitting a petition on Tuesday to join AFSCME Maryland Council 3—library leadership is now reviewing the request.  Frederick News-Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Shelby Munson, a co-owner at Common Ground Workers Café, suffered a herniated disc in May that causes severe, burning nerve pain and forces her to stop working—she must now undergo surgery to prevent nerve damage. After trying physical therapy, medication, and steroid injections, she relies on community support to help cover rising medical costs.  Daily Voice
