COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents will attend a meeting on November 20th at 6:30 p.m. at Butterfly Ridge Elementary School — located at 601 Contender Drive — to discuss the design of the proposed westside community center and share ideas for its development. Those attending must use the Recreation Center entrance at the rear of the school.  WFMD

  • Frederick residents can shop at small, independent stores this holiday season with a new list of off the beaten path shops where curious gift-givers can find unique items. The guide encourages local support for the economy—helping small businesses grow.  Frederick News-Post

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said Bakery de France is expanding its Frederick operation by building an artisan bread facility off Monocacy Boulevard that will add 125 new jobs. The project is a joint venture with a Belgium-based bakery group and is supported by a $700,000 loan from the Maryland Department of Commerce—plus tax incentives—to boost local growth.  DC News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Juniors at Urbana High School earned a state grant this summer for their nonprofit that supports young people with disabilities— the grant will help them expand services and plan for future growth.  Frederick News-Post

  • Philip Tepper was awarded the Visionary Award by BrainStorm for his work advancing innovative technology in county government—his effort in launching Microsoft 365 Copilot and sharing best practices has helped boost the county's digital workplace. County Executive Jessica Fitzwater said his recognition reflects the dedication and innovation of the new Digital Workplace Services team.  Frederick County
  • The Frederick County Department of Highway Operations says a section of Horine Road in Jefferson will be closed from Wednesday, November 19 until Friday, November 21 (three days) to allow crews to replace a pipe and repair pavement.  WFMD
  • Frederick County Planning Commission met this week to discuss plans to expand green infrastructure in the area. The group said the new measures will improve access to green spaces & protect preserved lands as it finalizes its rigorous plan.  Frederick News-Post
  • The northbound ramp for Route 15 at West Patrick Street is closed today while crews work on scheduled maintenance. Drivers should use alternate routes during the closure.  City of Frederick

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Frederick County Health Department is searching for a stray short-haired calico mother cat and her 10-week-old black kitten near Apples Church Road and Seiss Road in Thurmont after a kitten tested positive for rabies on November 4. Health officials warn residents not to touch the animals and to call FCHD at 301-600-3342 or Animal Control at 301-600-1544 if they see them.  DC News Now
