COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Veteran Service Center at Goodwill Industries in Frederick is expanding its outreach to Veterans and First Responders with two free weekly programs that offer a Monday morning coffee gathering and a Friday hot breakfast+optional Bible study for those who seek support. The center welcomes service members, Veterans and their families without needing advance registration at 1750 Monocacy Blvd.  WFMD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Middletown High School business students created their own brands and businesses in a class project — earning awards for their hard work. The project showcased their creativity and skill while preparing them for future opportunities.  Frederick News-Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Farmers from Frederick, Carroll and Baltimore counties challenged the Maryland-Piedmont Reliability Project in a Baltimore federal courtroom on Tuesday — saying the project violates their property rights — while supporters stressed that the project is needed to deliver power to data centers in Virginia. The legal dispute now leaves local stakeholders waiting for further court rulings to balance farmland preservation with economic growth.  DC News Now
  • Frederick County Government announced its Agriculture Innovation Grant Program received the Rural Economic Development Award from the Rural Maryland Council on November 19. Since launching in January 2021, the program has funded nine cycles that supported 77 agricultural projects and over 300 new jobs while generating $3.50 in private investment per dollar spent — with the next cycle opening in March.  Frederick County

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Red Cross said many regular donors do not give blood during the busy holiday season because family events and school breaks make it hard to find time. Communications Director Bethany Patterson said the region’s blood supply is stable for now but could drop if shortages occur — donors with O-type or B-negative blood can help.  WFMD
